Music is an integral part of the St. Dominic’s Brewood Curriculum and is taught across all Departments. We have a flourishing Music Department, with over half of our pupils enjoying tuition from specialist Music Teachers in orchestral instruments, piano, guitar and solo singing, all of whom enjoy participating in musical performances both in the School and at external events.
We believe that creative subjects such as Music work in harmony with the core academic subjects offered in the St. Dominic’s curriculum. General memory is improved through music, as pupils read and memorise sheet music, which benefits them in other subjects and examinations. Teaching music at the earliest possible opportunity allows us to support our young learners in the development of hand-eye co-ordination and motor skills, keeping learners engaged whilst aiding their emotional development.
Performing a musical piece develops our learners’ confidence whilst demonstrating how a sense of achievement can act as a key motivational tool. With the aim of fully extending our students’ talents, they are able to reach their musical potential and students have the opportunity to learn an instrument from new, continuing through to Grade 8. We are extremley proud of our achievements in this subject and enjoy success at a variety of competitions and events at all levels.
